Carlisle Federal Indian Boarding School NM

Visited the Carlisle Federal Indian Boarding School today. Thousands of Native American children were forced to go to school in these Boarding Schools, where they were stripped of everything of their culture to conform to white standards. Jim Thorpe was one of the more famous individuals who attended—the white building is the gymnasium where he would train. And the track is the original track - cinders and all. Also, “Pop” Warner (yup, the youth football guy) also coached here and his house is still standing.
