Heading to Nebraska for a Weekend

Well, due to some unexpected heart issues for Scott earlier this month that precludes him from going to elevation for a short bit (he’s fine), Scott and I had to cancel our trip to the Canadian Rockies. So we rebooked two “equally as fun” trips instead. The first one was a weekend trip to Nebraska. Yes, Nebraska….the middle of Nebraska no less. We found last minute flights from Phoenix for $88 a person and a cheap rental car. So, off we went. This post will document some of the more random things we saw. The more “major” destinations will have their own posts 😁

Pinkies up! Flew out of Mesa Gateway and OHSO gives you roadie cups to drink beer at your gate! Then when we landed in the tiniest airport known to man (Grand Island, NE) and got to our hotel, water and Girl Scout cookies awaited us.

We headed west on Highway 2 headed toward the Sandhill area. In Broken Bow, we stopped at the Tourist Information place, which had a small exhibit inside, including many different types of barbed wire. Outside, they had an interesting sod house, which was apparently common in the area in the 1800s.

Lunch was at an apparent Nebraska staple fast food place: Runza. Very midwestern-y with ground beef, onions, cabbage and cheese in a flaky bread. Once was enough for me.

Who doesn’t want to stay at Cuzn Eddyz?

Well, why not.

Although I already have a NE brewery for my brewery quest, we made a quick stop at a brewery in Alliance.
