Yes, We Visited Another Mound...in Moundsville, WV

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I don't really care for the mounds. My husband, however, was convinced he could find a mound in Moundsville, West Virginia, and he was not disappointed. He found the Grave Creek Mound Historical Site. This mound has some history, well, history I found interesting. During the Civil War, Union soldiers perched artillery on the top of the mound, taking advantage of the raised position. However, even better - prior to the Civil War, there was a saloon that ran on the top of the mound! Even today, you can walk up the stairs to the top of the mound and view the surrounding area.

The most interesting part of this for me was actually the fun little museum as part of the historical site. This huge guy is a Stegodon, which is a mammal and in the family of mammoths, mastodons, and elephants. Has nothing to do with Moundsville or mounds, but I found the information interesting nonetheless.
