Perry's Victory and Int'l Peace Mem'l
Since we were still ahead of schedule, we could fit in another NPS site for me, finishing off the Ohio parks. Scott had already been to Perry's Victory and Int'l Peace Mem'l. Since we had other things to do this day, we wouldn't be going over to Put-In-Bay to spend time at the bars and restaurants there and I was only going for the NPS site. So, Scott decided to stay behind an wait for me. Before getting to the ferry to Put-In-Bay, there is a small park with a cannon from the Perry's ship that partook in the battle.
The Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 was key for the Americans, and led to another battlecry "Don't Give Up the Ship." In a previous battle, a close friend of Perry's had been wounded and as they took him below-deck, the friend yelled what became the battlecry. Perry had it stitched onto a flag, which he hoisted during the Battle of Lake Erie.
The Memorial Column is quite impressive and "celebrate[s] the long-lasting peace among Great Britain, Canada and the U.S."
The walk back to the dock is a quite pleasant view of the water.
